NAC is a “French” bistro with whitewashed brick, banquette seating, and brass-coloured accents. Very on trend. But in close study of the menu it really wasn’t all French. Number Sixteen – one of the Firmdale Hotels, occupying a Victorian white stucco townhouse in the heart of South Kensington, London, with its own tree-filled private garden. We walked in one day and asked if my dogs and I could have a cup of tea in their conservatory. Only in the garden and only if the dogs are on a leash and well-behaved. It was a beautiful summer’s day, and we didn’t mind sitting in the garden – a little oasis in very busy South Kensington. Good for lunch and afternoon tea. 16 Sumner Place, London SW7 3EG
OPSO Restaurant – inspired by traditional and contemporary Greek taste, OPSO serves modern Greek tapas to be shared. Not usually a fan of Greek food, but this is “modern” Greek – whatever it means, it’s delicious! 10 Paddington St, London W1U 5QL (NOTE: They have recently disallowed dogs inside. They have outside seating, and dogs are allowed there.
Pantechnicon – Roof Garden – At the top of the Pantechnicon, a multi-storey restaurant and shopping arcade, the roof garden is year round with a terrace where the dogs are allowed. Serving a Nordic food and drink menu throughout the day and evening, The Roof Garden is designed to be relaxed setting to get together. Serge et le Phoque – The duo behind Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred French restaurant Serge et le Phoque have opened a new restaurant in London. Wasn’t sure to put this in the French category as the menu in the London restaurant is more European Asian fusion “highly sophisticated but not complicated.” It was a lovely summer day and we sat on the terrace but confirmed that dogs are also allowed inside the restaurant during lunch time. 20 – 21 Newman Street, London W1T 1PG
Sketch. London – “Quirky modern European” was how a chef described it. It has become a destination place, for food, art and music. Dogs are allowed in the Parlour Room – which during the day is a townhouse tea room that transforms into a cocktail lounge every evening. Stein’s Berlin Restaurant – a city version of the original group of German restaurants in Richmond and Kingston. The Kensington Berlin is a lively setting for German plates and beers in a modern contemporary venue with an elegant twist inside this Grade 2 listed building. Swans Bar at Maison Assouline – not just a cafe/bookshop on Piccadilly, but a terribly chic place to stop for a cocktail or a cup of Dammann Frères tea. Once a banking hall designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1922, it is now the London home of book publishers Assouline.
