One of my all-time favourite hotels is The Peninsula Beverly Hills. During my frequent business trips, it was my home away from home. Even after leaving corporate life in America, I continued to return whenever I was in L.A. In 2019, I brought Darcy along to create new memories together, making an already special place even more meaningful.
We were thrilled when we heard that The Peninsula was opening in London.
Superbly located at Hyde Park Corner, overlooking Wellington Arch, The Peninsula London occupies one of the city’s most prestigious addresses – 1 Grosvenor Place. Newly built yet designed to seamlessly blend with its historic surroundings, the hotel sits just moments from Buckingham Palace, Kensington Gardens, and some of London’s most iconic landmarks.
The Peninsula Hotels are synonymous with elegance, luxury, exceptional service and seamless fusion of tradition and innovation. Arriving on the eve of Lunar New Year, we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality from the very moment we stepped into the courtyard.
Signature touches of The Peninsula experience were ever-present—besides the fleet of custom Rolls-Royces to the distinguished Peninsula Pages in their crisp white uniforms …
There standing guard at the entrance are the pair of familiar lion statues, a tradition that originated at The Peninsula Hong Kong, the brand’s flagship property. These lions, named Stephen and Stitt, were commissioned in 1928 and have become an iconic emblem of the brand.
Stepping into our room (329), we were completely in awe—the floor-to-ceiling windows perfectly framed Wellington Arch, a breathtaking sight that set the tone for our stay.
But it wasn’t just the grandeur that took my breath away. Beside the beautiful spread of Lunar New Year treats, a thoughtful surprise awaited—a double picture frame featuring George and Lulu on one side and a cherished photo of Darcy on the other, alongside three specially made biscuits bearing their portraits. The level of care and attention to detail was deeply moving, a testament to the Peninsula’s commitment to making every guest feel truly at home.
The attention to detail, the trouble they took to learn about their guests was heartwarming. And more than ever, I know The Peninsula continues to be home away from home.
Having stayed at most of London’s iconic hotels, few rival The Peninsula when it comes to being truly dog-friendly. The most appealing aspect is being able to dine with your dogs at all their restaurants: Dining at The Peninsula
Prior to our stay at The Peninsula, we had Afternoon Tea in The Lobby, and dropped in one day just to have their Cantonese Breakfast. Brooklands by Claude Bosi already has two Michelin stars, and we love the view from the restaurant as well as the Brooklands Bar. Canton Blue is one of my favourite Cantonese restaurants in London, having feasted there a few times, I never tire of it. And just like the restaurant, the Little Blue Bar interiors is a feast for the eyes. There is also The Peninsula Cafe & Boutique which has a delightful collection of signature Peninsula products (their famous XO sauce), including artisanal chocolates and fine gifts.
