An English summer at the Seaside

George, remember the very rough beach we went to on New Year’s Day?  Mummy was so nervous about us going on it because of those mighty waves.  Well, it’s quite a different scene in August.We weren’t allowed on it!  But Mummy read the “small” print and realised that the private chalet to the east was only a short way down the central part of the beach.  We headed that way but we looked west and saw the vast area where I could run!It wasn’t so fun. Instead we walked up the cliff side –as we did in January.From there we can see – 
The Seaside Boarding House where we stayed. Where we love sitting on the patio, especially when the sun is out But when the weather was too cool to sit ouside, we sat at the barThere were many little touches around the hotel that said they are dog-friendly!
Mummy likes to sit at the bar to write our blog when we’re thereBut we ate dinner at the fine, proper restaurant.  The rule used to be humans with dogs would eat at the bar. But when we came to stay at The Seaside Boarding House in early May, it would have been too mean to have Mummy sit by herself to eat when the rest of the group she was with were dining in the restaurant.  So they let us sit with the rest at the table in the far end, and I think since then, “well-behaved dogs” are allowed. 🙂Thankfully it was at the far end because the kids – were a calamity!!!!  We ate early and left before the other diners arrived.

So the next evening, we thought it would be better for the kids if we ate at the very casual Hive Beach Cafe!Located right on the beach at Burton Bradstock, where there were lots of families with children and dogs on leads are welcome! And there were lots of them coming and going.As I sat under the table, I see them come and go.  I barked at some of them and not others. But now and then comes along one that all of us want to bark at! But no one minded because Hive is known for having dogs around that a bark here and there is quite the norm.
While some sat begging, most of us were under the tableWhile the humans were served delicious food. We smelled little feet that can looked like delicious sausages! LOL!
At the counter there were lovely hand-baked dog treats. And we bought you some, George!

After supper at the Hive Beach Cafe, we took a walk back to the hotel via the fieldsSo the kids and I could run before heading back to the hotel.
It was a lovely visit – and we wished you could have been with us. I have a feeling though that was not the last time we’re visiting  Burton Bradstock.

May’s comment:  The lovely Seaside Boarding House is brilliant! Perched on a cliff, it is “an oasis of relaxed sophistication” overlooking the majestic sweep of Chesil BeachAnd just down the road from it is the Hive Beach Cafe – ever so dog-friendly.

But beaches are usually off-limits to dogs during the peak summer months, but there are places they are allowed on lead and selected places where they can run. I seem to have forgotten that part of it because we usually go to the beaches in the winter months – for our traditional New Year walks and Darcy’s birthdays.
