We first heard about Nowzad when Sara told us about his Daddy’s charity – Nowzad Dogs – the first dog rescue home for dogs in Afghanistan. Mummy read up about Nowzad and told me about their story – when the Taliban were in Afghanistan dogs were not longer allowed as pets. So all dogs were thrown out onto the streets. It was either that or death. So there were many strays.
They also liked dog fighting and many of the dogs had their ears and tails clipped for that purpose. Poor pooches. But that was how Pen Farthing met Nowzad. Pen stopped a dog fight and one of the dogs, Nowzad followed him back to the army’s compound.
Sara painted a portrait of Nowzad and presented it to Pen Farthing yesterday when he was there for the Remembrance Sunday events at the Cenotaph. And she’s helping to do fund raising for them. Mummy had toyed with the idea of getting my portrait done but can’t find a place to hang it – and she still doesn’t. But she was so touched by the story of Nowzad that she decided to have my portrait done and donate the 100 pounds to Nowzad Dogs.
I think it’s great and I am honoured to have my portrait painted by Sara. Except Mummy’s going to want to donate every time Sara has a new cause so we may end up with a gallery of my portraits! 🙂 So much for no space.
May’s comment: I met Sara Abbott at Harrod’s Pet Kingdom where she was painting a portrait of a dog. I loved how the portrait captured the expression of the dog she was painting. Here again, she painted Nowzad, he was a fighting dog and had his ears and tails clipped off – so quite a tough character and used to tough times.
Sara is supporting Nowzad Dogs … see flyer below.

May I just say what a comfort to discover
somebody that really knows what they’re discussing
on the web. You certainly know how to bring a problem to light and
make it important. More and more people must check this out and understand this side of the story.
It’s surprising you are not more popular given that
you most certainly have the gift.
Hi would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using?
I’m going to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
It’s WordPress.
