From the city of a thousand ghosts … BOO! 👻
The ancient city of York has a reputation for being the most haunted city in Europe, perhaps even the world. There is a rich tradition of ghost story telling as they are an integral although undeniably obscure part of the city’s history.
We had to pay a visit to The York Ghost Merchants – the makers and sellers of the original York Ghosts.

And Mum had me posing for a photo (eye-roll) – and I was quite the show stopper!!!

We had come earlier in the day and it was teeming with people, with a queue winding around the block. One of the kind staff suggested we come back later in the day if we wanted to take a photo – and so we did.
We were the last in the queue – and the staff were delighted to have me pretending to be a ghost.

Each ghost is handmade in a workshop above the remarkable shop at No. 6 Shambles, York – combining the best of British materials with the sagacity and resource of generations of Guild craftsmen and women. Â
There were so many to choose from – which one should we get?
And then they told us about the special ones behind this picture …
And these are the ones we chose …

We thought this reminded us of our Spooktacular Act last Halloween.

May’s comment: We had such a lovely few days in York. When I asked Sarah what was his favourite part of the trip, he said The York Ghost Merchants located in The Shambles.

The Shambles is a historic street in York, England, featuring preserved medieval buildings, some dating back as far as the fourteenth century. The street is narrow with many timber-framed buildings.
