Two days ago, many of our human owners saw this picture of a dejected cockapoo in a Facebook page. His name is Buster and only 20 months old.
The humans had learnt that he was going to be put to sleep by his family unless someone took him in. There had been an accident where he lived. He had bitten the owner’s 8-year-old child. It is likely that the bite occurred as a result of being not neutered and not walked enough. The family have lots of children and a baby so it’s likely that Buster was simply ignored rather than having a problem.
Thankfully the dog walker took him home and saved his life. She then shared the news with another dog walker who shared the news with the world of cockapoo owners. And what happened after that made me have even more faith in humans.
Many humans readily stepped in and offered him a home. Everyone was watching the space. Mummy was very tempted but at the moment we don’t have the space for two and besides she’s going in for surgery in a month and would be unwise to do something like that. But she offered to take him as a last resort but it never needed to come to that – Buster will be going to his forever home in Devon.
We wish him well in this time of confusion – being passed on from one to another and then being driven away to his new home wondering where he’s going and what happened to his original family. But he will soon sniff it all out and realise he’s a in better palace where he’s wanted and loved. We can’t wait to hear all about your adventures, Buster!
Thank you humans – for saving a dog’s life, for giving Buster a home he deserves – one with attention, care and love.
May’s comment: What a lovely bunch of people – who responsibly said no when not possible but worried for the little boy. And to those who stepped up to the plate when needed. But at the back of my mind is a thought – that someone was so willing to give the ultimatum to end a life because of inconvenience. There are other solutions – which when given some thought to, can have happy endings for all. I hope that 8 year old boy will not be afraid of dogs because of this incident. And I hope the family will not remember Buster as being a bad dog or hate dogs forever. It was probably due to circumstances they had let out of control. A household full of young children and a young dog requires a lot of work as we know. But to end a life because a being was seeking attention – not cool.

This is not the first time members of the Cockapoo Owners Club have stepped up and rehomed a cockapoo there have been many in the 2 years we have been running. I am so proud of my club and it’s members who have the biggest hearts in times of need. x
What a touching story. The original family were lucky they had a choice to give the dog away before the police got involved. I was very badly bitten on the face when I was 6 years old so I know only too well what a dog can do if not looked after properly. I don’t blame to dog and there is life after biting with the right care. I wish Buster well and hope he is happy.
Hi Kimberley, Buster is in his forever home now with a new cockapoo to play with. He seems to be settling in well into his new home. Many of us are watching his progress as he gets used to his new family. All very happy. But there are many more out there that needs a home too. x
