Today was going to be a busy day. This morning, my long walk was along Kings Road, running errands with Mummy.
I was at the hairdresser’s with her and we saw the lovely Pet Angel brushes!
They do look after me whenever I come. They had put down a towel for me to sit on and a bowl of water was brought to me without having to ask.
Then I suddenly sensed that something wasn’t quite right – I stood up and perched on Mummy’s knee. And then she held me and I sat on her lap.
May’s comment: We were at the hairdresser’s and she knows her routine. After checking our things, we go upstairs to wait, then we go to our seat and she settles down next to me. They are so attentive to dogs here, several clients bring theirs as well. When Darcy was a puppy, the girls used to take her out for walks because she couldn’t sit still. Now she doesn’t want to leave my side.
So things were as normal when I picked up an email with the subject, the name of an old friend whom I have been trying to connect with the whole summer and for one reason or another we never did. The message said: Sad News – see below. The news was indeed shocking and sad. My friend, Peter had passed away from an aggressive form of cancer. My heart sank in disbelief and sadness. I wished I could have seen him one last time – why didn’t I make more of an effort? Because there was always tomorrow. But this time there’s no tomorrow.
Just then, Darcy got up, perched herself on my knee, looked at me with her brown eyes and I knew she wanted to come and sit on my lap. I pulled her up and she gave me a kiss and laid down on my lap the rest of the time. Was it a coincidence? She was happily lying on a towel by my chair as she always does.
That is one reason why we can’t help but love them with open hearts!
