Capturing moments

Nichole came to take some photos of us last week … and she brought along some really yummy treats! Yes, I can smell them inside her bagIMG_0492 Even Georgie had caught on that there’s something interesting in that red bagIMG_1018We suddenly became very attentiveIMG_0490 We would do anything she asked of usIMG_0512 We happily said “please”IMG_0499 And we would look straight at her cameraIMG_0507And even when there were gardens to run in, it was the red bag I was interested inIMG_1028 But behind the smiles and patience of this lovely lady is a sad, sad story … she told us that her Great Dane, Olivia was very ill the day she came to photograph us.  The next day, Olivia had passed.

May’s comment: We met Nichole via this blog. She is a professional pet photographer and wanted to work with us as a taster for what she does.  Dog lovers usually like each other pretty much immediately – and it was just that about Nichole. She was of course amazing with Darcy and George. Darcy’s used to posing and George is learning fast – that he is required to sit still for some unknown reason.

As we got to know each other through the photography session, I learnt about her dogs Olivia, a Great Dane and Charlie, a French Bull-Dog. On our second session, she told us that she had put part of her life on hold so she can spend time with Olivia – who has been very ill. Two days later I read that she had passed. As a pet photographer, she posted some very poignant photos of her beautiful friend. And I cried buckets for a dog I never met, but for the pain of emptiness in losing her best friend – for a good part of her life.580449_10151511095854389_908431430_nBig hugs, Nichole – words are not enough to comfort you in any meaningful way.

But it reminded me how much I want to capture moments with my two pooches.  It is unfortunate that our best friends do not last forever. But then I wouldn’t want them to last forever for what would they do when I am gone.

  2. I’m not sure if Nichole will read this comment but I’d like to send her my condolences on her sad loss. Olivia looks a beautiful girl. Xxxx

  3. Thank you May. It has been a pleasure to work with you and Darcy and George. Thank you for your kindness and appreciation for Olivia. She was a very special girl and it’s an honour to have her memorialised xx

  4. A very sad loss. We had a great Dane named Angel before Maggiedog, who was taken from us very suddenly. I didn’t even get to say goodbye, so I feel her pain.
