Celebrating all God’s creatures

We had so much we could have done this Sunday –

To the movies at Picturehouse Central where they were doing a dog-showing of The Wife. Mummy really wanted to see that but she was still tired to make it all the way to Piccadilly with three dogs! Barnaby has been staying with us this weekend.

And then join the Wooferendum march to Parliament. We don’t like pawlitics and decided to leave it to the others. Mummy turns off the telly every time Brexit comes on the news.  If there’s going to be another referendum vote, we will be voting but until then – we will get on with our lives.

We decided instead to go for the Pet Blessing service at St John the Baptist Church. It isn’t just a pet blessing, Mummy sees it as a day to renew her vows to us. We met Victoria and Spencer at the church. At the lesson today, Father Neil reminded us that –God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, …”

In other words, God created the animals before he created man! Then came the blessing – we went up front to Father NeilTo receive our blessing.

May’s comment: One of the nicest doggy things on the calendar. It is not just a pet blessing service for Darcy and George but also a time to give thanks for my wonderful fur-babies.  At the service, I also to renew my vows to take care of them.  In some pet blessing services, the congregation repeats this covenant:

Will you care for your pet as God’s own creature?

All: I will with God’s grace

Will you love and protect your pet as long as it lives?

All: I will with God’s grace

Will you be faithful and kind in good times and in bad?

All: I promise to be so faithful

This is to keep the feast of St. Francis, famous for his love for all creation, and especially for God’s creatures.
