Darcy in verse

Darcy Poem 2

We received an anonymous package from The Enlightened Hound – and in it was this bespoke illustrated poem and portrait.

Named after a romantic hero, she was devoted and smart

And this four-legged Darcy held the key to May’s heart.

So May could not have asked for a better pal

To share her busy life as a London gal!

As inseparable buddies, May made it her mission

To find the best dog-friendly places, for which she gave recognition

In Miss Darcy’s very own blog (winner of several awards),

That features the most welcoming places for those with four paws.

A stylish explorer and dog about town,

May and Darcy’s adventures were well renowned …

They visited 26 countries from Belgrade to L.A.

And had the best adventures along the way.

She’s been on TV and modelled in mags,

Charming everyone she meets with wiggles and wags.

Eternally loyal, joyful and elegant,

In 5-star luxury she was in her element …

But what mattered most to Darcy was being with May,

Partners in crime, they made the most of each day,

Hunting squirrels and learning new tricks,

Or protecting Teddy from George (the rescued terrier mix).

At the end of each year they’d take a walk by the sea,

And make wishes for the New Year to the powers that be.

Her soft brown eyes would gaze adoringly at May,

Full of trust and love, more than words could say …

And now her spirit lives on in May’s heart and soul,

And though little George can never fill that hole,

Darcy would wholly approve of him following her paws,

To keep spreading the word for the dog-friendly cause …

And she lives on in the heavens, where on a moonlit night,

You can see a star named Darcy, shining clear and bright

May’s comment: It’s been four months since we said good bye – it seems a lifetime.

Debbie from The Enlightened Hound had contacted us to let us know as she needed some insights about Darcy. I’m super delighted with it.

We’ve worked with Debbie in the past. Many, many years ago when doodle crosses were overlooked, we begged her to do a cockapoo “dog tag” print for us. To get the attributes of this doodle cross, I sent out a message on all the cockapoo Facebook pages and asked everyone how they would describe a cockapoo. And “Oodles of Love” was the result, and the drawing is that of Darcy.

We have always loved The Enlightened Hound’s prints, so the Hounds in Verse will be a well-loved addition to our collection – and a very precious addition.

Hounds in Verse” is a bespoke illustrated poem about your own dog.

Each poem is written in rhyming couplets and is a whimsical, perceptive and heartfelt portrait of your dog and a truly unique expression of your relationship with them. It is an amusing and endearing celebration of your life together, that will make you smile, warm your heart and will be treasured for a lifetime.

Each one is completely bespoke, created from the specific and unique stories that each dog owner shares with me. A pen & ink drawing of your dog is part of the design.

For dogs that are no longer with us, the poem is a poignant tribute and an original way to remember the precious time spent together.

Each poem is individually hand lettered and illustrated in ink on Japanese Hosho paper.

  1. Darcy’s verse was adorable! Her portrait was a nice match, too. It looks so elegant all framed! We all miss Darcy.
