Direwolves

During this time when Mummy’s being “grounded” due to her surgery, a thoughtful friend gave her the Game of Thrones DVDs for the many hours spent at home and sleepless nights!

She quickly became hooked from the time the members of the Stark family stumbled across a litter of puppies of a slain direwolf in the woods near their home in Winterfell.
It so happened there was one puppy for every Eddard Stark’s children.  These puppies very quickly grew into fluffy giant-sized guardians. They soon became heroics. Summer saved the life of Bran Stark in an attempted assassin of the boy. And Nymeria had to flee for her life after she attacked Prince Joffrey to prevent him from harming Arya Stark. Nymeria was left to wander in the Riverlands.  Maybe one day they will meet again! And Ghost followed Jon Snow she he joined the Night’s Watch.  And one night Ghost began to whine at the door in the middle of the night and helped save the Lord Commander from being killed by wight.  Grey Wind jumped over the table and attacked Lord Greatjon Umber as he drew his sword when Robb refuses to give him command of the Northern army’s vanguard. Rickon, the youngest of the Stark family had Shaggydog who hasn’t done much in Season 1. But Lady, Sansa Stark’s direwolf became the slain victim of the ferocious queen! So when Lady (Zunni, in real life) got slain and therefore, like many of the cast members, Zunni, “lost her job”, and she was without a home. The good news is that Sophie Turner, the actress who plays Lady’s Mummy, asked to adopt Zunni!  Hooray!!!! Now, Zunni is with her forever home near Leamington Spa, England! May’s comment: The “direwolves” are actually Northern Inuit dogs – a cross-bred relative of the Siberian Husky. They have been an official breed since 1998. So despite their direwolves action in the show, Northern Inuit dogs are extremely friendly.  In fact they do not make good guard dogs. They are not aggressive and will submit if challenged.

I’ve just finished Season 1 so don’t know the fate of them. But heard that they were eventually replaced by CGIs.
