We were warmly welcomed when we arrived at The Peacock. I was asked my name. They made a fuss and then we got the reality check.
I’m not allowed in the restaurant dining – that’s to be expected. We would have been surprised if we were allowed in there.
I wasn’t allowed in the bar – hmmm. In most hotels, that’s where we usually can dine together.
And I wasn’t allowed in the Lounge as they serve food there as well.
We can run around in the garden and sit outside but not so convenient for this time of year.
So basically we enter the hotel, walk through the entrance hall and up to the room. Just anywhere that serves food we aren’t allowed. And we soon realise it’s not because of health and safety reasons otherwise they wouldn’t serve Mummy food with me next to her, but simply in consideration of other guests who may not be “dog-friendly”.
We were given the smallest room at the back of the hotel. Mummy reckoned she’s been relegated there because it’s just herself and with a dog. OK, she thought – it’s only a room.
As the room wasn’t a place to lounge around, we went for a walk. The garden is lovely. After we came back in, we sat in the hallway to read the papers. As there wasn’t anyone in the Lounge, the staff said we could sit there. But we decided we didn’t want to scurry away when someone else came along.
All these regulations are because of other guests while the staff would accommodate.
But the best was yet to come. When Mummy went downstairs for dinner at the bar she left me, with a Kong filled with treats – that way I know she wants me to stay and I know she’s coming back – so I was fine. I’ve been slowly asking Mummy for a very special treat for me, I’ve heard about antlers for dogs, and after my initial thought of it going on my head, I realized it was something I could chew! Yummy.
But when she sat down for supper the staff offered her the private dining room and it would be absolutely fine for me to join her. Mummy came running back up to get me. By then I had already gobbled up my treats!!! Not only did I get treats but I also got to sit with Mummy and wait for more “hand-me-downs”.
Mummy sat at the end of this long table and had the whole room to herself – and me.
And I even got some “hand-me-downs”.
Feeling stuffed, we went for our evening walk in the garden – and we looked back into the lovely room where we dined.
And when we went upstairs to bed – see what awaits me!
THANK YOU!
But this morning I didn’t do well. I think Mummy made the mistake of letting me go downstairs with her for supper. So when she left to have breakfast I created quite a racket that she had to take me downstairs and she left me at Reception – and I got pieces of cheese to make me happy. 🙂
May’s comment: We understand that they have to cater to the other guests but whenever they could they accommodated us. It was very much appreciated that they remembered my concerns about leaving Darcy in the room – so they found solutions.
But I did make the mistake of coming to get her for dinner. She learned that she can go down with me and she protested that I left her behind this morning. So I had to get her and left her at Reception.
They were on the whole very welcoming to Darcy – every time she came into the hotel, they fussed over her. Everyone knew she’s Miss Darcy. 🙂 It’s always the problem with other guests. And understandable. But they could at least have a dog bowl for water.

Ha love you & miss Darcy sat there in that private dining room with the huge table!!
Very grand and regal.
10/10 for the peacock to come up with this solution – you should of sat Darcy at the other end head of the table!! 🙂 x
