A reminder from Dr. Suess.
Today would have been Bailey’s 16th birthday. He lived in Canada with his Mummy, Peg. But he passed away in December at a ripe old age of almost 16 years.
Especially today, his Mummy still feels the pain of loss.
But they had 16 wonderful years of love and happiness, precious friendship, shared adventures and moments.
Bless you Bailey! We will see you at Rainbow Bridge one day – where we will all be happy again. Till then, we shall smile and be thankful for all the joy you brought to so many lives you’ve touched – even after you’ve gone.
May’s comment: I was asking myself why they make us weep so much when they leave us. It seems a hole that never seems to close. I’ve never had the experience of losing one and I dread the day when it happens to me.
They are amazing companions – their undying loyalty that no matter what happens they will still love you – and that is something that breaks our hearts when we see cruelty inflicted upon them so undeservedly. And they just make our hearts soar when they welcome us each time we come back to them. That look in their eyes – one of relief when you are reunited. That tail that goes into overdrive with excitement!
Or on walks when they run ahead and then stop to look back to make sure you are there. It’s all these little things that they are that makes us realise how much we rely on them for making us feel good.
And as we have domesticated them they are dependent on us for their survival. Their total reliance make us their carers. Their innocence, their confused looks, their pawing at you trying to communicate.
So when all these little things are gone, the joyous moments, the excitable reunions and the quiet understanding between two beings it is the emptiness that we hear. It seems that empty place in the heart is always there. A scab may grow to stop the bleeding but the scar will always be there. They touch our lives unlike most humans because theirs is simply pure love, loyalty with no expectations.
