With another Exeat weekend approaching, I found myself wondering what to do with my 14-year-old godson, Sasha. Then, a lightbulb moment struck! Why not check into the art’otel at Battersea Power Station and explore London’s newest and most exciting neighborhood? Sasha is starting to discover fashion trends, and to top it off, he’s quite a foodie. This would be the perfect getaway, offering a fresh experience in one of London’s top shopping and leisure destinations—ideal for both shoppers and culinary enthusiasts alike. What a fantastic idea!
Our taxi cruised down Electric Boulevard, the heartbeat of London’s vibrant Battersea neighbourhood, and soon we arrived at the award-winning art’otel London Battersea Power Station, which has been voted 100 Best Places to stay 2024 by The Times.
As we stepped into the lobby, the hotel makes an immediate impact with bold design and art installations. We were instantly drawn by its surreal cubist-inspired design, with a mesmerising wall-length cabinet of curiosities. Each object, from eclectic vases and ceramics to unique glass pieces, was carefully curated by Jaime Hayon, showcasing the rich cultural diversity that defines the city. It was a visual feast, an artistic flair spilling into every corner of the space.
All of which flows seamlessly to the bedrooms, restaurants and other public spaces. Jaime Hayon’s unique artistic touch transforms the guest rooms into an expression of playful luxury. Bold splashes of color, paired with whimsical design elements, create a lively yet comfortable atmosphere. The thoughtful blend of bold pastels and deep tones strikes a balance between energy and relaxation, offering a space where guests feel both inspired and indulged.
Our room, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, was flooded with natural light and boasted a view of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home below. George and Lulu, sat by the window, completely entranced by the sight of dogs out for their daily walks.
The weather that day wasn’t the best but we went to look at the much talked about rooftop infinity pool and hot tub, offering stunning panoramic views of the iconic Power Station and beyond. Even though the skies were grey, the view was still breathtaking.
During the warmer months, the 16th-floor rooftop bar and gardens provide the perfect setting to enjoy 360-degree vistas of London’s skyline.
On the ground floor, TOZI Grand Café is wonderfully dog-friendly, adding a welcoming touch as it overlooks the bustling Electric Boulevard. The café’s art gallery maintains the hotel’s creative spirit, seamlessly blending into the vibrant atmosphere. Serving an all-day Italian-inspired menu, TOZI specializes in Venetian-style cicchetti (small sharing plates), including their signature tartare trolley and other delightful Italian twists. It was the perfect spot for a flavourful meal amidst the energetic hum of Battersea.
For a finer dining experience, JOIA Battersea—a skyline restaurant created by award-winning chef Henrique Sá Pessoa—offers breathtaking views of the Power Station. However, unlike TOZI, it’s not dog-friendly.
Right across the street from it is the dog-friendly Battersea Power Station and we were drawn to the Arcade Food Hall & Bar, with its wide variety of street market-inspired cuisine. With 13 different cuisines to choose from, we opted for BAO, the cult Taiwanese brand, which was a hit for both Sasha and me. And the best part? Dogs were welcome everywhere!
A short walk from the Power Station is Battersea Park, where we took George and Lulu for some walkies, rounding off our adventure with some fresh air and greenery.
For Sasha, the entire weekend was a perfect blend of style, food, and fun, aligning with his growing interests and making for a memorable adventure. He loved every moment, and for us, art’otel London Battersea Power Station proved to be the ideal place to stay when visiting London with dogs—combining artistic flair with warm hospitality.
It was an Exeat Weekend success! Something for Sasha, something for me and something for the doggies. We made memories together.
