Well, almost. We get to wear our England shirts for a few more days! The last time we wore our England shirts …
And dressed up as Three Lions …
And not forgetting our tribute to Gareth Southgate – as George wears a waistcoat!
Tonight will be another crazy evening with Mum and Fiona.
Ever since England got into the Quarter Finals – they have been watching the matches together and we really don’t understand what’s going on. They start shouting – “C’mon England! Let’s go!” So George and I would get up ready to go but then the hoomans don’t go anywhere! They continue sitting on the sofa and shouting at the TV. Sometimes Mum hides behind her sewing tags so she doesn’t get too nervous. They are saying things loudly, startling us. And a lot of new words that we’ve never heard before! Like “plonker”! It was very confusing.
And when England won the last two matches, they started singing …

After England squeaked past the finish line at Wednesday’s the semi-finals, Mum grabbed me and she started dancing out of sheer relief and excitement.
And George … he fell asleep as they were singing Sweet Caroline! LOL!
I guess something BIG must have happened.
May’s comment: Oh yes, it was historical! For once in a very long time, we have reason to believe that football might be coming home. 54 years since the last time England had been in the finals of a major tournament. What’s made it all a very eventful last week was beating Germany. A convincing win over Ukraine. And a nail-biting whatever-it-took (Denmark’s own goal and deflected penalty), for England to squeeze past the finish line. It was heart stopping to say the least!
It is never easy watching an England game. And tonight, I am adopting a philosophical approach … thank goodness that the narrative of penalty losers, semi-finalists losers have been broken. Just grateful for the joy this has brought to the nation after 16 long months of sadness, fear, worry, lots of dissension, disappointments. But as we start to ease out of lockdown, the recent weeks have turned our focus towards to the familiar sounds and sights of summers past. Things seem to be just a tad more normal.
Even if England doesn’t win tonight, it has brought back a lot of smiles on our faces – for the first time in a very long time. They have already made us proud. And if England wins – I won’t know what to do! It’s a new concept! LOL! Probably jump around, shout and sing – FOOTBALL’S COMING HOME! That would be nice.
