Grateful

We can look at life as either half full or half empty. It’s easy to dwell on what we don’t have.

On this day of giving thanks, we have been reminded to be grateful for all that we have and had despite things not going our way. This year hasn’t been what Mum had planned. When the lingering Covid limited us to staycations the two last years, she was so looking forward to the meticulously mapped out plans for 2022. Sadly, even before the year began, we were soon reminded there is no guarantee what happens in life.

No matter what, LIFE GOES ON. Each day the sun rises and the sun sets. It waits for no one – and we would lose out if we just dwell on misery and loss. Instead, we must live each day with fervour and in the moment lest we regret in time to come. Mum’s friend, Margaret always says at the end of a phone call – ‘Seize the day’.

May’s comment: Sometimes it is easier to begrudge when things don’t go our way and look at life as half-full.

Even with the burden of loss and grief, LIFE GOES ON. We must remember to savour each day so we do not regret not having made the most of what we have.

Time doesn’t heal but it gives you perspective. It has helped me to give thanks for the time I had with Darcy, for her being in my life to allow me to experience the love and the trust we shared. She opened up my heart, to the world of animals in need and gave me a sense of belonging.

Our memories are countless but there won’t be new ones. Thinking about that makes me sad, but so grateful that we have miles and miles of them to remember. And in a way, this blog and our Instagram account hold those memories for me.

And without George, I don’t know how I would have been. Because of him, I wake up each day and in turn he’s there for me. We have our cuddles in the mornings in an emptier bed. He just does what I expect of him despite his curiosity getting the better of him. He has simply been remarkable.

Travel has always been my passion and a part of my personal journey, literally and figuratively. Because George is smaller and he can travel in-cabin, instead of the places I had planned with Darcy, we went further afield, to places which would have been not possible with a larger dog. At each of the places, we would and will always look up in the skies and find her in the stars – to share the moments of memories with her.

Looking back to the past eleven months, there are many other things to be grateful for. One of which was to finally meet Tiny Tim aka Barkley. It was a long journey, but worth every mile. I am so grateful to have been able to hold him, cuddle him and spend time together. We were meant to meet – he knew it, I knew it.

Though he lives in Phoenix, AZ with his dad, Clint, he is very much a part of our lives.

And so on this day of giving thanks, we look back with gratitude for those in our lives and for those we had. For the many beautiful memories. For the many life moments we’ve shared.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
