Mummy found me an alternative to Frontline. She’s always been uncomfortable applying Frontline on me for two reasons. She thought the chemicals must be really strong stuff because she couldn’t cuddle with me for 24 hours. She also did not like the idea of all that chemical on my skin.
She really started thinking about it seriously when I had a really bad reaction to Advocate – when the vet recommend that it would be better for me. I had the itch all night and could not stop scratching. I was miserable.
The next day I had to be bathed by the vet to get all the chemicals off my skin.
Then recently, someone had mentioned an effective and safe natural alternative repellent for Flea, Tick and Mite. It’s called Billy No Mates. Mummy had ordered it and it arrived today – ready for me when I get home.
May’s comment: Billy No Mates is a powder made of seaweed, neem leaves, lemon balm, fenugreek, mint to be sprinkled over food. Apparently Billy No Mates will also do wonders for skin and coat condition. It must be used from Easter onwards to provide complete, natural cover.
In addition to flea and tick repellants, I’m trying out is Verm-X as an alternative to conventional worming tablets. It eradicates all internal parasites including: Hookworm, Roundworm, Whipworm, Tapeworm, Heartworm, Lungworm Verm-X Herbal Crunchies acts as dog treats whilst functioning as an internal parasite control. It is to be fed every day throughout the year. My Itchy Dog
However, the deworming tablets will still be required each time she re-enters the UK, but in the meantime, we can try a more au natural method.
And then the next big thing seems to be coconut oil – for hair, for health – for both human and dog. So Darcy and I are going to share the bottle of coconut oil brought specially from Thailand!

I’ve started Lucy on coconut oil, she loves it! I have also just ordered my next lot of Honey’s Real Dog Food, can already see the benefits of raw, I am keeping my fingers crossed for the anal gland problem:-) X
Fiona, do you add coconut oil to Lucy’s meal or wash her with it?
I am not so sure about the washing aspect.
Harry has been on Billy No Mates (liquid version) and Verm x for over a year and we haven’t had any issues. Just started him on coconut oil too 🙂
That’s great to know – another person onto this. I’ll never use Frontline on Darcy again if I can help it. But the deworming will have to be applied whenever we travel as that’s a requirement. Did you get the liquid version from My Itchy Dog?

The coconut oil I received as a present from a friend in Thailand is supposedly very good but many on my other FB pages and blog readers obviously buy theirs locally! 🙂 I was going to mention coconut oil in my next posting so let’s see what they say.
What about a liquid form of Billy No Mates – is it better or makes no difference?
May, I give her half a teaspoon every morning, she eats it off the spoon! (Re coconut oil),her coat is looking lovely:-D.Iwill gradually increase to a teaspoon a day, yes I’m not too keen on rubbing it on her fur xx
I cannot imagine rubbing oil on her fur either!!! After all that grooming, and she sleeping in my bed – the last thing I want is an oily dog!!! 🙂
What brand of coconut oil do you use?
I give Lucy Fushi, Vigin Organic Coconut oil, you can buy it in Waitrose, infact I’m buying another jar as its on offer at the moment, £6.66 instead of £9.95 x
