A Beautiful Piece of English Countryside That Redefines the Idea of a Hotel
As our Kitchen Chat®: A Taste of Luxury, History and Hospitality Tour drew to a close, I couldn’t have imagined a more fitting place to end our journey.
After two wonderful weeks filled with extraordinary hotels, afternoon teas, fine dining, fascinating conversations and countless miles on the road, Heckfield Place invited us to do something different: simply slow down.
Set within 438 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside, just an hour from London, Heckfield Place is a beautifully restored Georgian manor house that feels less like a hotel and more like the private home of an exceptionally well-travelled family with impeccable taste.

There is a quiet elegance about the house. Original Georgian architecture sits effortlessly alongside contemporary British craftsmanship, creating interiors that are warm, inviting and wonderfully understated. Soft, muted colours, natural textures, beautifully aged wood, carefully chosen antiques, an impressive collection of British art, and an extraordinary attention to detail give every room a sense of timeless comfort rather than formal grandeur.
As an interior designer, I found myself constantly looking around, admiring the craftsmanship and the effortless balance between history and contemporary living.

Every corner felt intentional. Every object seemed to belong exactly where it was.

For those travelling with four-legged companions, Heckfield Place extends the same thoughtful attention to detail. A limited number of dog-friendly rooms are available, all conveniently located on the ground floor and with access to their own private gardens.

Lulu was warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived and quickly became quite the little celebrity. She was admired, fussed over and genuinely loved by the team, making us all feel completely at home.

But beautiful interiors are only part of the story.
Without exception, every member of staff we met was exceptional. Warm without ever being overfamiliar, polished without feeling rehearsed, and genuinely knowledgeable about the estate, its history, the food and the philosophy behind the hotel. Their impeccable training is evident, but even more impressive is the sincerity with which they share their knowledge. Hospitality here feels effortless, although one senses the enormous amount of care happening behind the scenes.
One of the true highlights of our stay was recording a Kitchen Chat® podcast with Peter, the General Manager, Executive Chef Michael, and Dor Harel, Head of Culinary Development.

Listening to them speak so passionately about their work was fascinating. Their conversation wasn’t simply about running a luxury hotel or creating beautiful dishes; it was about stewardship, sustainability and a genuine respect for the land. Dor shared how the seasons shape everything they create, from preserving the harvest to making the very best use of the extraordinary produce grown on Home Farm. Michael spoke about allowing exceptional ingredients to shine, while Peter brought the wider vision of Heckfield Place to life, explaining how every aspect of the guest experience is connected to the land.
And we were also fortunate to meet Henrietta of Rare Tea Company for a most invigorating conversation about sourcing teas from the most exotic places.

It was more than a conversation about hospitality; it was a conversation about purpose. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and by the end of the podcast it was easy to understand why Heckfield Place feels so authentic. Everyone is working towards the same vision, and you can feel that harmony throughout the estate.
That philosophy is perhaps best experienced at the table.
We enjoyed lunch at Marle and dinner at Hearth, both of which were absolutely divine. The dishes were beautifully uncomplicated, allowing the exceptional ingredients to take centre stage. Much of the produce comes directly from Heckfield’s own certified organic Home Farm, where vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, honey, eggs and livestock are nurtured in harmony with the seasons. The menus follow nature’s rhythm, and every plate reflects the estate’s commitment to thoughtful, sustainable cooking and the true meaning of “farm to kitchen.”

Beyond the dining, it was the peacefulness of Heckfield Place that stayed with me most. Whether looking out across the gardens, wandering through the grounds or simply sitting quietly in one of the beautifully designed rooms, there was an overwhelming sense of calm. It is a place that gently encourages you to pause, breathe and savour the moment.
By the time we reluctantly packed our bags, it felt less like we were leaving a hotel and more like saying goodbye to a place that had reminded us of the importance of slowing down, appreciating thoughtful hospitality and reconnecting with nature.
Heckfield Place is far more than a luxury country house hotel.
It is a beautiful piece of English countryside that redefines the very idea of what a hotel can be. And for us, it was the perfect finale to another unforgettable Kitchen Chat® journey.
