I’m Lulu

Officially, I am Lucy “Lulu” Skye.

Mum has always liked the name Lucy and would have named her daughter that if she had one. So when I came along, she thought to call me Lucy but have met a few lately. She decided to call me Lulu instead, after the Scottish singer who sang the song Boom Bang-a-Bang in Eurovision 1969. For those of a certain age, you will know the song. But if you have not, lyrically, the song is a plea for her lover to “cuddle me tight” and that “my heart goes boom bang-a-bang boom bang-a-bang when you are near” – and that is how I feel about my new mum.

It was only after the fact that she remembered Lulu was Darcy’s original name. Mum didn’t choose it because of that. She obviously didn’t like the name that much back then and had changed it to Darcy.

As for “Skye”, that’s the name given by Teen Tyke’s father whom Mum made my godfather. And Mum thought, surely we will now have to keep Lucy so I will be “Lucy in the Skye with diamonds”! LOL! That will be another post.

Oh, and I have several nicknames for now – chicken nugget, cocktail sausage, porkie pie, dumpling and cuboid.

So hello everyone! This is my first blog post! I hope to be sharing my adventures with you.

May’s comment: It’s only been just over a week since Lulu arrived but it felt like she has been with us much longer.

In the lead up to The Big Woof with tarot card readers and animal communicators, I couldn’t help but asked for a reading with Diane, who met us at Goodwoof. I wanted to know what Lulu has to say or what was her story.

These were some of the cards from the reading …

Queen of Wands says Lulu is an upbeat and positive soul, that she’s happy to adapt to her new life, but she doesn’t like to be kept in the dark – metaphorically. She wants to know what is happening.

And then Darcy came through very strongly and had a lot to say.

Darcy’s message to me – “I am OK. You can let me go a little bit because I will always be with you. But now be here now for Lulu and George.”

Diane said, “Lulu is not a replacement.” I know that. Darcy can never be replaced.

Seven of Swords which represents mental formation and powerful. The message – pick up your tools, you have everything you need to start this new chapter.

When the Ace of Cups showed up, it signified joy and happiness. The halo is the energy from the dog that is no longer around. The message: Darcy is incredibly proud of what you’ve done and that she still walks beside you. Darcy said she had a part in making sure it was Lulu.

That, I know.

It was very clear to me that she led me down this path. It was too much of a coincidence that the day after I had the last emotional episode that the first toy poodle that SlaughterHouse Survivors shared was the one of “Cherry” now Lulu. Her eyes just spoke to me.

Diane continued, “Darcy said, if I could sit and be quiet and channel her, I would hear her.” And finally she said, “You are moving forward, lower your barriers. You will never be alone. I will always be by your side.”

If I had doubts about an after life, I don’t now.

Lulu is a gentle soul and seems unperturbed by most things – not even when George growled at her twice for invading his space on the first day. She hardly barks except when she heard dogs barking on a video and then to tell me to hurry up out of the bathroom because she couldn’t see me from her crate.

Her personality will surface in the months to come but for now, this is what I know about her … she is just as greedy as Darcy was. We found her snooping in a bag where there were treats – sounds familiar? And at every meal she would try and go for George’s food first instead of eating hers. Incredibly, George hadn’t let that bother him.

And she snores like Darcy – loudly! Within a week, she has made it onto my bed and she’s a snuggle! The first morning after allowing her to sleep on the bed, this is what I woke up to –

Her head on my neck and snoring!

I missed the snuggling in bed with Darcy. George doesn’t snuggle. He prefers his space at the end of the bed.

But she is Lulu. Her name is a gentle nod to Darcy. And Lulu became mine/ours on the 22 August, 2023 – exactly 19 months after Darcy left us.
