Whenever we visited Alice at her home, I always had to deal with her barking at me and her following me around everywhere I went.
There were times I had to crouch beside Mummy’s legs, hiding from growling, barky Alice.
Alice’s owners were so annoyed with her and thought she was being territorial and horrible to me and she would get told off.
But recently there had been some study done about us dogs displaying “strong distress whenever a rival usurps a loved one’s affection.”
Now, they realise that Alice is not being mean. She’s just being jealous because Alice’s Mummy and Daddy fusses over me whenever I am at their home.
But she’s also jealous when Mummy carries me. 🙁
May’s comment: Miss D doesn’t show any jealousy to the extent of Alice, but there have been times when she would nudge me when I am paying too much attention to another dog. She’s not so stressed, maybe she’s not such a jealous dog, unlike her owner! BBC – Jealousy in Dogs
