Rusty and Martine were some of the original Hyde Park Doodle friends. And through the years, we’ve done lots of fun things.

But when Lockdown happened in March and we could no longer do things together, we kept in touch through the internet. And that was when Martine started her Facebook Group – Keep Calm and Corona On.

It was meant for us to all share information to entertain ourselves during Lockdown but in the end, Martine was entertaining all of us!

Mum loved seeing what she was up to.

May’s comment: During the first lockdown, a lot of us got creative and started to do things we normally didn’t have the time to do. Well, for as long as I have known Martine, she was always busy, up to something so when we were all stuck in our homes, she had all these ideas of doing things around the house. She had kept us entertained and here’s how she got started and achieved something during the months of lockdown.

So as we continue with tier levels of existence and potential future lockdowns for the next few months, let us introduce you Martine’s story.

I started my group Keep Calm and Corona On at the start of the first lockdown. I didn’t give it that much thought, except to share what I was doing to keep myself occupied.

First and foremost as an owner of a garden company (Balcombe Street Window Box Co), I thought I would share tips on how to make your garden look nice with videos on how to pot some plants. I then shared planting vegetables and fruits and more …

Then I shared other things, such as getting my house in order from cleaning with newly arrived machinery (a Dyson vacuum cleaner) and alike! Since I had no cleaner I made everything into an event. It also kept me amused and making the videos made me feel less isolated.

I found from comments that people were really enjoying the videos so it spurred me on.

Lockdown Disco Night with Martine

My neighbour’s daughter texted me to say her and her boyfriend look forward to the end of the day when they can watch my recent posts and they love them!

So it continued on …

I painted dogs which is my other mini business venture,

I also painted denim jackets for Rusty and I.

We visited a market and went on walks. Recommended TV series and films to watch. And even shared chapters from a book I have been writing – Recipes for Disaster.

I also posted cooking demos.

After the first lockdown I continued to post videos having achieved quite a following.  I will keep the group going as I can used it to share my day and encourage other people to have a go. It is also not a bad idea for promoting my various ventures.

Here are Martine’s many activities / businesses –

I have enjoyed watching what Martine gets up to. Love how natural she is in front of the camera as she makes doing every day things so much more fun. She makes me laugh and perfect for the first lockdown when we were all trying to connect in different ways. Well done, Martine for keeping up the spirit.

If you like this post, why not share it.
