Loving Miniatures

We love these miniature portraits of …

DOGS

DOGS

CATS

and more DOGS!

May’s comment: Learnt about lovely Alice through a piece of art that Belinda had given us. After that we kept running into her and Cas because she works close to where we live. After checking out her Instagram page @dogsdogscatsdogs, I love the humour in her watercolours and the perfection in the drawings. So I contacted Alice during Lockdown to see if she could help me with notecards.

And that was the beginning of a friendship.

She then told me about how she had discovered doing Miniatures as another way to commemorate the much loved dogs and cats. This is her story …

I draw, paint and illustrate cats and dogs – watercolour portraits, illustrations, card designs and pencil & colour pencil drawings that take me around 25 hours to complete. I often mix traditional with digital by incorporating Photoshop. I absolutely love every medium I use, and every wonderful commission I have the privilege of working on.

I create my art alongside a full-time job which can sometimes be quite a time challenge, there are never enough hours in the day! During lockdown, I had a little more time on my hands – a great opportunity to keep on top of my cat & doggy artwork and a few extra hours for thinking. I came up with the idea of offering teeny tiny watercolour portraits (7x7cm to be precise!) that I can complete in a shorter amount of time. My thought being that once lockdown was over and life got busier again, these teeny tiny portraits would be manageable for me, and a lovely, complete gift for someone to buy, at a very affordable price.

I sourced teeny tiny, black frames which, along with a smart white mount, add the finishing touch.  I also opened an Etsy store where I sell the teeny tiny portraits (I would never have had enough time to do this if it hadn’t been for lockdown!) and I’ve adored each and every small, furry subject I’ve painted so far.

Fabulous gift idea for friends with dogs or cats! For commissions, you can get in touch with Alice at alice@dogsdogscatsdogs.com

  1. Alice does such a superb job with her miniature artworks! What a perfect set of note cards she prepared for you, May, emphasizing Darcy and George in their appropriate outfits during the seasons of the year. Also she explored the different looks of your neighborhood during the seasons and your seasonal attire!
