Staycation in Devon

Right after the second Lockdown, Mum decided we needed to have another staycation. For a change of scenery, she chose Paschoe House, a boutique country house hotel in Devon – it sounded idyllic.

This was also our first time on a train since early January when we arrived home from our last year Christmas and New Year travels to Sylt, Germany. We were cautious about your journey. All the hoomans wore masks in the stations and on the trains. It was busier than we had expected but everyone was sat apart.

The journey from London to Exeter St. David was just over two hours and we couldn’t wait to see Paschoe House for ourselves.

We were shown to our room up those stairs ..

There are only nine rooms. We were assigned the Hare Room.

Mum had made sure there’s the essential bathtub. Nothing like a nice hot bath after walkies.

I had my own suite!

Also good to stand on to look out the window to check who’s coming and going.

But before we went out to explore the fields and walks, Mum had to have afternoon tea. We ate all our meals in the Morning Room as dogs are not allowed in the fine dining room.

So how about some walkies?

There are trails nearby or just the surrounding fields – seem fine on a muddy day.

We found some peacocks on the grounds.

When we were ready to go back inside, there was a basket of towels by the door to wipe our wet and muddy paws.

Ah yes, then it was that all important warm bath after walkies.

There was another dog also staying – I was a little territorial. I thought this was my house.

But he was a gentle ol’ soul and ignored me the whole time.

There was one important thing that we must do before leaving Paschoe House. We had to meet Truffle and Treacle – the dogs in residence. Sure enough, they announced their arrival! They could sense I was in their house!

Truffle is the Pet Concierge and he told us pooches what we could and couldn’t do.

All too soon, we needed to head back to Tier 2 London. It was a short break but we had a lovely time. The staff took such good care of us and we definitely felt at home.

May’s comment: What a lovely discovery. We had come across Paschoe House on their Instagram and it looked lovely.

Following on from our Staycation series, we thought to check it out but Boris suddenly announced a national Lockdown #2. As soon as we were declared a Tier 2 zone and after confirming that Devon is also in the same situation, we escaped to the countryside.

With only nine rooms, it feels very much like being at someone’s home. And their fine dining restaurant has three AA Rosettes.

We have always enjoyed the south western region. It is close enough to London for a quick visit, a lovely stopover on the way to Cornwall or a destination for discovering the region. There are lots of activities one can explore in the area while at Paschoe.

The fast train from London to Exeter St. David was straightforward and took just over two hours. The closest town to Paschoe House is Crediton.
