Last weekend, we had a change of scene … from our Victorian red brick mansion block to skyscrapers and city lights.
We were excited to check out the very dog-friendly Pan Pacific London Hotel in the city’s premium Square Mile.
Our spacious room on the 17th floor had a good view of the city.
And all the amenities, treats and toys that I could need.
They have a dedicated Pet Concierge, located next to reception. I had a chat with them about some of the services they can provide –

Grooming and Treatments – Pet Concierge can arrange for your dog to be collected for grooming and some pampering at the nearby Shoreditch Dog House.
Dog Walking for Afternoon Tea – As dogs are not allowed when humans have their Afternoon Tea in The Orchid Lounge, they have dedicated dog walkers from Bone Rangers.
Pet Menu – their in-house dining menu has been specially curated by Anna Webb, a dog behaviourist and nutritionist, as well as the host of A Dog’s Life Podcast.
Naturally, I had to try the Dog’s Dinner which is Sushi Style Lamb Hot Pot – thinly sliced seared lamb breast with mashed carrots and parsnip drizzled with chicken bone broth.
If you are looking to explore the city, the Pet Concierge can help to recommend some dog-friendly restaurants while you are out and about.
And what is also lovely is right across from the Plaza is Bishopsgate Churchyard which was formerly St. Botolph’s burial grounds. It is quite unusual to find green parks in that part of London.
We loved looking at the night lights – such a different view from our usual. Mum left the curtains wide open and we went to sleep amongst the skyscrapers.

May’s comment: There is no shortage of hotels in London. One can’t keep up with the latest openings. Decades ago I had stayed at Pan Pacific Singapore and it was only recently that we realised that they have a property in London close to Liverpool Street Station in London’s premium Square Mile.
We had the pleasure of checking it out and it is as they say – authentically Singaporean, distinctively British. Graceful and luxuriant, Pan Pacific London fuses together meaningful design and a myriad of dining and drinking destinations.
Martine and I enjoyed their signature Singaporean-inspired Kopi Team Afternoon Tea, celebrating bao, dim sum and choux.
As dogs are not allowed in The Orchid Lounge when Afternoon Tea is served, this is when the Dog walking services kicked into action. George went for walkies while we sipped Sencha Tea and experienced an Afternoon Tea that took me back to tastes of childhood growing up in Malaysia.
Otherwise, they are truly a pet-loving hotel, welcoming canine companions and feline friends and have thought of everything to make their stay a peak experience. Dogs on leash are allowed in The Orchid Lounge outside Afternoon Tea service.
In the evening, we dined at Straits Kitchen, headed by Head Chef Jun Yung Ng who brings authentic Asian flavours to the table. We also had breakfast there.
As if all that eating wasn’t enough, we had to check out SHIOK! patisserie that is located in Devonshire House.
Dogs are also allowed in Silverleaf and Ginger Lily cocktail bars.
Overall, they have the most thorough Pet Programme of any hotel we have stayed at. I think this is George’s way of saying he approved of their Concierge services.
During Covid lockdown when we couldn’t travel abroad and needed a change of scene, we decided to explore our own backyard. We must have done about 18 staycations and each time we discovered a neighbourhood just by walking around where we stayed.
It has been such a delight to discover Pan Pacific London. It is close to Liverpool Station so there’s easy access to other parts of the city.
