This coming Saturday, 6th September is Pup-Aid Day in Primrose Hill, London. The purpose of Pup-Aid is to raise awareness about the UK’s cruel puppy farming trade and to promote rescue dog adoption.
Pup Aid was founded in 2010 by TV vet Marc Abraham and they have received huge support from a nation of animal lovers including celebrities Ricky Gervais, Liam Gallagher, Brian May, Joanna Page, Meg Mathews, and Sarah Harding to name a few. But we need everyone to do their bit to help to end the mass commercial production of puppies purely for profit and without a thought for the welfare or happiness of the pup, breeding bitch or stud dogs.
Breeding dogs and pups are usually kept in horrific dark conditions, totally unsocialized and riddled with both infectious and often incurable diseases. These poorly pups are then sold en masse to pet shops, online or from free newspaper ads and usually die soon after reaching their new home.
If they do make it they usually require thousands of pounds worth of medical, surgical and/or behavioural treatment to fix them causing even more pain, suffering and heartbreak for both pups and families.
In order to stop puppy farming we must simply stop the demand. By raising awareness through events like PUP AID and promoting rescue dog adoption and responsible breeding practices – it will end eventually.
Last year Pup Aid launched an e-petition to help ban the sale of young puppies and kittens unless their mothers are present. Over 110,000 people signed the e-petition and the issue is now going to be debated in Parliament tomorrow – September 4th 2014.
We need as many MPs as possible do their bit – to show the Government that there is strong, cross-party support for tackling puppy farming.
