No, it was my idea, not yours, Georgie!
It wasn’t mine? Oh, it was Agnes?
Oh well, Happy Mother’s Day!
And dog shaped chocolates (from Praewa) that we can’t eat.
May’s comment: My best furry kids!
Never been a biological mother but these two have given me a chance in this life to experience selflessness and a sense of responsibility – a taste of what it feels like to love another before oneself and to care, worry about another.
These days I love the mornings when I wake up to find them snuggled up close – even better when Darcy parks herself on my pillow.
And then George wakes up to assess the situation.
Before he snuggles up too.
On mornings like these (which is almost everyday!) I wake up thinking how happy I am to have them both in my life. It’s their simple communication – the overwhelmingly happy greetings, the deploring look of anxiousness or hesitation when someone else is taking them away, the deep soulful eyes of total submission and dependency, and the little paw that says – “I’m here” – it could mean “cuddles?”, “play with me”, “I want to go out”, more likely “I am hungry” or simply “wake up!” 🙂 – whatever their motive, those eyes and that little paw can release so much oxytocin (not much of a chemistry person – so unsure if this is the right chemical 🙂 ) that makes my heart just burst with love – like I’ve never felt before.
There are days when I wished I have no dogs and I lend them to someone, only to spend the rest of the day texting to find out what they’ve been doing! Or wish I have a garden where they can go out on their own on dark winter nights, yet if I suspect in the slightest that something is wrong dead in the night, I would gather myself so fast and run out the door carrying them to the vet.
It’s normal I suppose.
We can so easily take things or people for granted until we are threatened by a potential loss.
So while I try to do the best for them, they have done wonders for me.
My Mother’s Day pressies!
And Happy Mother;s Day to all dog mummies! You know what I mean.
