The Big Lunch — a UK-wide initiative that brings communities together over food, conversation, and connection — is happening next weekend, June 7th and 8th. It’s a heartwarming annual tradition where neighbours gather for a few hours of friendship, food, and fun, whether it’s a street party, a picnic in the park, or a simple cuppa in the garden.
And this year’s theme? BE MORE DOG! 🐾✨ Now that’s something we can get behind.
Because if there’s one thing dogs are brilliant at, it’s bringing people together. They break the ice without even trying, spark conversations between total strangers, and turn simple get-togethers into joyful, tail-wagging occasions. A wagging tail at your feet or a playful chase around the picnic rug adds an extra layer of warmth, laughter, and connection.
After all — dogs don’t care what you do for a living, where you’re from, or what you brought to the table. They just want to be part of it.
So if you’re joining a Big Lunch next weekend, be more dog: say hello first, welcome everyone, chase a squirrel (figuratively or literally), and enjoy the simple magic of community.
The Big Lunch was started by the Eden Project in 2009 and has grown into an annual tradition, usually held in early June as part of The Month of Community.
The concept is simple: whether it’s a street party, a picnic in the park, a gathering in a communal garden, or a cuppa shared on the front step, The Big Lunch is about creating connections, reducing loneliness, and strengthening community spirit — over food (because let’s be honest, everything’s better with cake).
It’s become even more meaningful in recent years, giving people a reason to pause, chat, and celebrate the lovely little pockets of community around them. It’s informal, welcoming, and totally shaped by the people who take part — no two Big Lunches are quite the same.
We got together last week to help promote The Big Lunch at Battersea Power Station which is a perfect option to gather with friends and family as this has got to be one of the most dog-friendly places in London.
