Sometimes Overloving Can Kill (The Dog Rescuers – Episode 6)

Yesterday’s Dog Rescuers had good results.

A female Staffordshire Bull Terrier and her two puppies were left at home for a period of time. RSPCA went in to assess the situation and when they knew there were two puppies in there, they needed to rescue them.  Of course the mother was protective and confused. But eventually the RSPCA managed to get them out. And immediately she calmed down. They were removed from the property. The ending – the owner came home after being delayed on a trip. Hmmm – a bit suspicious, I’d say.

Then there’s Sasha who is almost twice as heavy as she should be – her owners rescued her four years ago and since then have been basically killing her with “love” – she has cream cakes, malteses, liver, cheese every day!!! Crikey! So eventually the RSPCA sent the owners to a vet so she can be put on a diet to lose half her weight. Apparently if we dogs are even as little as 20% overweight, we increase the danger of heart problems, arthritis, diabetes, etc. (Oops! Mummy is going to stop those treats!) But really not so different from humans.

Finally there were some dogs left locked up in disgusting places – a frightened German Shepherd in a small, dark filthy shed.  They were so frightened that even when they were let out, they kept running back into the shed that was covered with faeces and urine.  The other dogs were cowering in the dark – boo! The owners signed all seven adult dogs and two puppies over to the RSPCA. Thank goodness! They were taken to local kennels and before long one puppy, Flossy, a German Shepherd was already re-homed.

Flossy’s new owner said – “Having a dog in your life completes you, I suppose” 🙂

Thank you RSPCA – for looking after our welfare.  Over 100,000 dogs were abandoned in the UK last year.
