We are now Intermediates!

With Novice behind us, we looked at the next level of tricks to learn.

Again some of them we had already done for Novice level but they become 1 point and some are at an Advance level which means we get 2 points. For Intermediate, we needed 12 points. And these are the tricks we did …

• Barrel racing – which means run up to an ‘object’, turnaround and come back (1)

• Figure 8 through human legs (1)
• Peekaboo – stay between legs and walk (1)

• Hold object in mouth (1)

• Roll over (1)

• Shake hands (1)
• Sit Pretty (1)

• Stay out of sight, 20 sec (1)

• Wave (2)
• Weave (2)

And we have it!

May’s comment: Well done, Darcy! We had to learn a few of the tricks to get to Intermediate.

The Weave was a major achievement as that is the one obstacle on the Agility course that she had not been able to do on her own. We invested in poles or we would never get it. And it took a few tries at leading her and then the lead came off and she went tentatively. After a few more tries, with breaks in between, she got it. Towards the end, she was actually getting faster. Now we can do the full agility course!

George already can do some of these tricks and has 4 points towards an Intermediate Trick Dog Title – but we need 8 more points! But I have decided to have Darcy get to Advance and then I will fully concentrate on George as I think he requires a different approach.

Can we do it Darcy? George, we will get there, we will try.

It’s not always smooth sailing … here’s a blooper! LOL! Darcy was desperate to do anything to get that treat. She was already on the ground and was trying another trick to be rewarded. LOL! And she’s not a very elegant roller!
