New Me!

Lulu says, “New Year, not so much new me but less of me!”

Well done, Lulu for achieving your weight loss goal of reaching 4kg before the start of the new year! Not only that, she surpassed that by reaching 3.9kg! Woohoo!

And look how far she has come. From a stodgy 4.75kg to below 4!

Today, a more slender and more agile Lulu. No more name calling of “brick”, “loaf”, “chicken nugget”, “porkie pie”, “furry footstool”, “dumpling”, “cocktail sausage”, “cuboid”!

We did a few things to achieve the goal.

Honey’s Real Dog Food offered to help Lulu’s weight loss with their Bespoke menu, that would be tailored to her needs. We have been feeding raw since Darcy was two and we have continued to do so.

As every dog is unique, and their nutritional requirements may vary, Honey’s offer a variety of diet options to suit different dog breeds, sizes, and sensitivities. They can tailor their meals accordingly to the precise nutrients they need for optimal health.

They also make it easy and convenient in pre-packaged, easy-to-store containers, taking the guesswork out of portion sizes.

The Honey’s Bespoke option is more expensive than their traditional range, but the goal is to ensure that Lulu remain fit and healthy and eat the optimum diet with plenty of variety whiles losing the required amount of weight.

And we are thrilled that much has changed.

At the start, Lulu panted every time we were out walking. It worried me so much that she would have a heart attack.

As Lulu began to shed the weight, she stopped panting as we walked. She used to walk a short while and then asked to be picked up. Then one day, we walked the whole length of King’s Road, and she did not once not keep pace with me. I knew then we were on the right path.

She is now able to run up stairs with speed. And in addition to gaining confidence, she is more agile and coming down steps. She stands up on her hind legs a lot, especially when there are treats involved.

I’ve also noticed that every time we’ve had a more active period or a couple of days of running on the beach those grams came off faster.

I am not encouraging her to jump off beds or sofas because that isn’t good for her joints nor back.

Lulu is on the small end of toy poodles. At our initial visit, I told the vet that I was aiming for Lulu to get to 4kg. He politely suggested that we should reassess when she gets there while muttering under his breath that she should be way below 4kg. LOL! We have reset our goal to get her to around 3.7 kg. And then we will maintain the level of food but with more exercise.

All that said, Hoo-mum, gained a whole kilogram after all the holiday feasting. She needs a human version of Honey’s Bespoke Meals!

  1. It’s so great that you found the Honey’s Bespoke meals for Lulu. She looks so trim and fit now that she has been eating the new meals and walking with you and George! The videos show how agile she is running up the stairs, too. I am glad she isn’t panting anymore on walks.
