These nine beagles lived the first years of their lives in metal cages in a laboratory. They are animals that have been used in labs for experiments. This video is about them taking their first steps on grass in the sun.
ARME (Animal Rescue, Media & Education) got a call to re-home these beagles.

In December 2010 it was announced that beagles being used for animal experiments in a research lab were to be given a chance at freedom. ARME started Beagle Freedom Project – the mission is to rescue and find homes for these beagles.
Apparently beagles are the most popular breed for lab use – besides their friendly personalities, they adapt well to living in a cage. Many of these dogs have gone from commercial breeder to the scientific labs. They have never felt grass under their feet or even seen the sun. They live in cages with steel wire floors which can result in infected paws from pressure. They are fed a special diet formulated for lab animals – so that means they will have to adjust to normal dog food.
A lifetime of confinement means they maybe fearful of people. They have never been given treats nor toys to play with.
When they are no longer wanted for research purposes, these adoptable, healthy beagles are taken away – hopefully by organisations such as ARME.
Beagle Freedom Project is a service of Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME). Founded in 2004, ARME is a nonprofit advocacy group created to eliminate the suffering of all animals through rescue, public education and outreach. ARME has found homes for thousands of homeless and abandoned animals.
