As January unfolds, the anniversary of losing Darcy draws nearer. Alongside the celebrations and rituals, December and January now carry memories that have become part of the season itself. The moment of hearing that Darcy was ill, and the days that followed as I watched her decline, are woven into this time of year. December and January—times of reflection, of celebration, and of farewell.
Four years ago, 1,461 days since I held her for the last time. She is still with me in quiet, everyday ways. Almost daily, I find myself thinking, Darcy would love this, or remembering what a wonderful traveller she was. She was truly the best cuddler—every morning, without fail, she would snuggle close and stay there until I was ready to get up. She was a constant presence.

Time moves only in one direction, no matter how much I wish I could return to those moments or do it all over again. The only comfort I hold on to is the thought that, with each passing day, the distance between now and the moment we will meet again grows a little smaller.

Every experience leaves an imprint on the heart. It is through these imprints that we grow, expand, and learn to love more deeply. But healing those imprints—the pain, the loss, the fear—is not always easy.

Beautiful , so sad . My daughter has a Darcy an apricot cockapoo. I have his sister a black cockapoo. They will be 12 this coming August. It’s coming to that amount of years that go by so fast . It’s scary and it hurts so much just thinking about what’s to come .
Stay strong loved your story with your Darcy xxx
Thank you Marie. How fast time flies. But Darcy was only ten when she left – just wasn’t enough. But then I wouldn’t have Lulu.
