“But how do you bring their food when you travel?”
It’s one of the questions we get asked all the time.
Anyone who travels with dogs will know that food is always part of the planning. When you feed raw at home, people often assume we’re packing cool boxes, ice packs, and half the freezer every time we go away. The reality? That just isn’t possible, especially when we’re travelling abroad.

Raw at home… but realistic on the road
At home, we’re committed to feeding raw because it works brilliantly for our dogs. Their coats, digestion, and energy levels all thrive on raw feeding. But travel is a different story. Long journeys, hotel fridges (or lack of them), border rules, and hygiene all make transporting raw food impractical and, quite honestly, stressful.
Our non-negotiable travel essential
One thing we never leave home without is James & Ella freeze-dried food.

It’s been an absolute game-changer for us.
Because it’s freeze-dried, it offers the same nutritional benefits as raw feeding, but without the mess, fuss, or refrigeration. No leaking containers, no worrying about spoilage, and no awkward explanations at airport security. Just lightweight, shelf-stable food that’s easy to pack and even easier to serve.

Gentle on tummies, even with a change
One of the biggest concerns when switching food, even temporarily, is upset stomachs. Especially for dogs who are used to raw, sudden changes can be risky. That’s another reason we trust James & Ella.
Despite being a different format, it hasn’t upset their tummies at all. The transition is smooth, digestion stays happy, and we don’t spend our holidays worrying about sensitive stomachs or emergency vet visits. For us, that peace of mind is priceless.
Travel should be about memories, not meal stress
Travelling with dogs already comes with enough logistics: routes, dog-friendly stays, packing beds, coats, toys … food shouldn’t be the thing that tips it over into stressful territory.
James & Ella’s freeze-dried food lets us keep their nutrition consistent while staying realistic about life on the road. It means we can focus on what travel is really about: exploring new places, making memories, and enjoying every adventure together.
And if there’s one thing we’ve learned?
Good food you can rely on is something you should never leave home without. 🐾
