Being Together

Something we loved and wanted to share.

Pooh had been fretting about something for some time now, and when Piglet came around for coffee and haycorns and a little smackerel of something, he decided to pluck up his courage and ask his friend for help.

“The thing is,” said Pooh, staring disconsolately down at his cup, “I’m worried, Piglet. I’m worried because its going to be Christmas soon. And – and this is hard for me to admit to – I’m just not sure that I can afford to do everything that I want to do for my friends. Every time I see Rabbit or Kanga or Owl, they’re chatting about all of the presents they’ve been buying, and all of the Festive Events they’ve been arranging for us all … and, well … I’ve been looking at my bank account, and frankly I’ll be lucky to be able to afford a Festive Haycorn, let alone a Festive Event. And that makes me feel awful, Piglet, It truly does. Because you, all of you, you give me so much all year, so much time, so much love, so much … you. And I don’t have anything to give you back.”

Piglet stirred his coffee and crunched on a haycorn.

“Well,” he said, after a pause. “I think you’ve answered your own problem there.”

Pooh looked absolutely baffled.

“What you’ve just said,” continued Piglet, “that’s the crux of what Christmas is all about. It isn’t about presents, and it isn’t about parties, and it isn’t about who can get the most debt on Black Friday. Christmas is about love. It’s about Being Together. And, frankly, Pooh, I can tell you right now, spending time with you, Being Together, is all that I, or any of your true friends and family could ever possibly want at Christmas.”

For a moment, Pooh didn’t believe Piglet. And then he thought about all of the Christmas present he had ever received.

And he thought about all of the time that he’s spent with Piglet, and Eyeore, and Rabbit, and Owl, and Kanga, and Roo, and Christopher Robin, and all of his friends.

And a great weight lifted, as he realised, that, as usual: Piglet was absolutely spot on.

May’s comment: Being Together is the best gift we can give each other.

That’s why we will be together this Christmas. In a few days we will be travelling far and it will be difficult at times but there is no way I would spend Christmas without the two of them.

Looking forward to sharing our travels with you. xxx
