Over the last few years, we have travelled to Christmassy destinations. With all that was happening and continued to happen, we knew back in the summer that we shouldn’t expect to be travelling outside of the U.K. And we should continue our staycations – even in London, just for a change of scenery. And what better place to enjoy all the Christmas traditions than at the Connaught Hotel.
As news about the virus was getting dire, we knew that our plans were about to change. And prepared ourselves to have Christmas at home – together. That was all that mattered.
But our plans suddenly changed when we had no heat in our flat and Mum needed to find an “inn” for us. And happily we ended up back at the Connaught for a couple of days.
As you can imagine, the place was almost deserted but all the festive lights were still on …

It wasn’t quite the Christmas staycation we were hoping but I think Mum just needed a reason to get out for a couple of days. LOL!
May’s comment: We were so looking forward to our Connaught Christmas but as we moved into Tier 3, it got cancelled! We were disappointed.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, our boiler broke down a few days before Christmas. And since we couldn’t stay with anyone else due to the pandemic, it was a no brainer! Back to the Connaught for a couple of nights.
The streets are almost deserted and so grateful that there’s a park right across the street where we can go for quickies.
Only in-room dining which suited us just fine as normally dogs are not allowed in the Food & Beverage areas.
Hadn’t realised how limited my cooking repertoire is – been eating the same cooked meals for weeks! What a little luxury this was to 1. not cook for myself, 2. to have something different! LOL! Now this was all worth it!
It was all a bit quiet inside and outside of the hotel, but we needed a place to stay and it’s still quite festive. Thankfully we made it back home for Christmas.
The Connaught located in Mayfair is dog-friendly but not in F&B areas. The nearby Mount Street Garden makes it convenient for walkies.

So glad your boiler and your heating problems got fixed before Christmas! But thank goodness Connaught Hotel was available to you during the days you needed it! I really liked the monogrammed bedside mats!
