When news about Diesel’s death went on social media around the world, it seemed to have touched the hearts of Russia.

Diesel, a 7-year old Belgian Malinois, was a member of the RAID team that went into the building in Saint-Denis. She was sent ahead of her human colleagues to sniff out booby traps when she died instantly in the explosion detonated by the suicide bomber.diesel-paris-attacks_0In the after event, Russia has shown its solidarity with the people of France in a heartwarming way.

The Interior Minister of Russia has offered his French counterpart a Belgian or German Shepherd puppy, called Dobrynya, as a replacement for Diesel to be trained by the French police to help “in the fight against terrorism”.

You can never be replaced, Diesel.  2E912A0500000578-3323495-Decorated_Seven_year_old_police_dog_Diesel_pictured_with_her_ser-m-10_1447856115796But you have prompted goodness in the hearts of many for “having undoubtedly saved the lives of officers of RAID”.

And now we pray for the safety for little Dobrynya as he carries on the unselfish work that you have done.7351681May’s comment:  There is nothing gratifying about wars and only lives to lose. In this case, it was a dog trained to protect humans. Selflessly and unknowingly she walked to her death. It seems unfair but in warfare, what is fair?  We pray that Dobrynya will  live a long and fulfilled life.12277417_186049991746403_2016666919_n

Blagodaryu tebya, Rossiya (Thank you, Russia)

P.S. Diesel has been awarded a posthumous medal (médaille du Général de Grammont) by the Conféderation Nationale des SPA (French equivalent of the RSPCA) for “having undoubtedly saved the lives of officers of RAID”. RIP Diesel.12278661_1137702542915280_2129991217643703559_n (1)
