Hope and Reconciliation

“Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity.” – Nelson Mandela, the Freedom Fighter

As we watched the Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela that was held at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Mummy told me that one of her most treasured moments in her entire life took place at the 2010 World Cup Finals in Johannesburg. It was an unannounced appearance of Nelson Mandela just before the start of the match which eclipsed the purpose of her long trip.  She was thrilled to have been in the same place and breathed the same air as Nelson Mandela. She said it made the long trip worth every effort.

May’s comment: This is a moment we all knew would come for a long time. It is time to finally say that reluctant farewell to a man who gave us much to think about. He lived a full and purposeful life. And for that we give thanks for a remarkable man.  And I was absolutely thrilled to have seen him (from afar) in the flesh.
