And the Award goes to …

The Fidos (For Incredible Dogs On Screen) awards prizes for on screen dog performances over the year.

The Fido Awards took place in London yesterday at BFI, on the day of the Oscars. So as the rest of the film industry was celebrating industry giants in L.A. in their designers gowns, Fido was celebrating the dog actors!

There were several award categories – Mutt Moment, Blockbuster Bowzer, Rom-Com Rover, Comedy Canine, Historical Hound and Best in World.

And each category winner received a hand crafted collar by Cosima Pole, the founder and Creative Director of CreatureClothes.

This year, Jean-Christophe Bouvet alias “Pierre Cadault”, as in Emily in Paris was present to award two of the winning prizes!

The battle for the coveted Best in World award – an embossed collar – for the greatest on-screen dog performance was to be battled out by Messi the border collie who played Snoop in Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie’s incontinent labrador and Josephine’s pomeranian in Napoleon.

And this year’s winner of Best in World Award went to Messi who played Snoop, an assistance dog to a visually impaired boy who is the only witness to his father’s death, includes a scene when the dog almost dies.

Messi had hit the big times and was much favoured to win. He even had lunch with Bradley Cooper and Billie Eilish, plaudits from Emma Stone and an encounter with Ryan Gosling that went viral online.

And he also won Mutt Moment!

The Fido Award event takes place around the time of the Oscars and BAFTAs and are the sister ceremony of the Palm Dog Awards held annually at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Fidos were founded by film journalist Toby Rose in 2007, and in a sign of the growing seriousness with which the world of showbiz takes animal co-stars, the awards were held for the first time at the British Film Institute.

We had to have our photo taken with “Pierre Cadault”!
