Chic Dogs

IMG_2382

Throughout history, figures like the Queen of England and Coco Chanel have set the stage for dogs to become timeless symbols of luxury and elegance. Dogs have been part of our cultural fabric and the companions of chic individuals, from aristocrats to modern-day influencers. They embody sophistication and style alongside their fashionable owners.

Chic Dogs by Assouline is a stylish coffee table book celebrating the world’s most fashionable and beloved canine companions. Featuring stunning photography, the book showcases some of the most famous and unique relationships between iconic figures and their canine companions. From Maria Callas, the legendary soprano, strolling with her poodle, and Winston Churchill, who famously shared a bond with his bulldog. It highlights the special relationship between dogs and high society, fashion icons, and tastemakers, portraying them as both beloved pets and sophisticated lifestyle symbols.

With Assouline’s signature luxury aesthetic, Chic Dogs is a whimsical ride through time, showcasing our four-legged friends not just as pets but as true stars of history and culture, while capturing poise, elegance, and a touch of celebrity glam. This book is perfect for dog lovers who appreciate fashion, design, and the art of living beautifully.

To celebrate the launch of Chic Dogs, every purchase of the newly released book received a bespoke portrait of your beloved pet and the pups get a stylish ‘Puptini’ (aka l’eau).

I’ve long been a fan and collector of Assouline books since when I first met Prosper Assouline through work on a project in New York City. When I moved back to London, I was absolutely delighted when they opened their flagship store, Maison Assouline, in a historic building at 196A Piccadilly.

This is more than just a bookstore—it’s an elegant cultural salon. It features a cozy lounge, a bar serving cocktails and afternoon tea, and an immersive atmosphere filled with art, antiques, and rare editions. It is a destination.

One of the times when we were there, we met up with Prosper and Martine. And in casual conversation, I did ask if they would publish a book about dogs. So about ten years on, they launched Chic Dogs. Worth waiting for!

Founded in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline, the brand has expanded beyond publishing into a curated lifestyle experience, offering a selection of fine books, limited-edition collectibles, home decor, and even bespoke libraries.

One of my all time favourite photos of Darcy and me at Maison Assouline.
