We did it! Together with George, we have crossed the finish line of a marathon distance walk after we’ve walked 27.34 miles in five days!
On Day 5 we walked 6.06 miles!

I think Mum was inspired by the Olympics. After we’ve finished the distance on Thursday, we were watching the 50K race walking event that night. And Mum said that’s 31miles! We can do that – no problem! Er, yes, we can do that … but not at that speed!!!! And all in one day, Mum! LOL!
We, along with Barnaby and Freddie, have committed to ‘Take the Lead’ challenge, teaming hoomans and their dogs in a pledge to walk the marathon distance (26.2 miles) in a month, contributing to a group target of 11,453 – one for every person St Mungo’s helped last year.
If you would like to support our Take the Lead challenge to raise money for St Mungo’s, this is our Team Cockapoo donation link https://takethelead.mungos.org/teams/team-cockapoo
Who knew that we could do it. I think watching the Olympics must have inspired Mum. LOL!

It is not too late to join the marathon distance walk – you have all of August to finish.
May’s comment: Never leave to tomorrow what you can do today is my daily motto. Though we have the whole month of August to complete the marathon distance walk, I decided to get it done as soon as I can because who knows what will happen tomorrow. For us, August is a busy month … more about this later.
This challenge to walk a marathon distance had been so useful in many ways. First, I realised that I can now walk with no pain. What a revelation that maybe finally, I have conquered the arthritis and neuromas that have impeded my walking for the past ten years. A sudden sharp jab or constant pain management would cause other’s concern as I limped along. I was nervous about doing this. But we did it!! And there was no pain, no stiffness and my knees did not hurt.
And of course walking is good exercise. And knowing I can do so without pain has given me a form of exercise. Yes, walking is good but walking for good is amazing. It felt good to be doing something not just for myself but for a good cause.
As for George – we had no plans for him to walk with us because every time he went for a long walk or after running in the park, he would be limping in the evenings. I’d thought I’d try the first day and see how he would fare. He was fine. And along he came on every walk – and no signs of limping! Maybe it was because he was walking on lead – which is also good for building up his muscle strength.

Does that mean we have in a combined effort walked two marathons?!?!?
We may try and do a 50K or 31 miles. Let’s see how far we go.
P.S.to the person who sponsored us a £1 per mile – dig deep!!! LOL!
