And so we began our Take The Lead challenge which began last Sunday on the 1st August. We are city dwellers so we’ll be pounding the pavement to walk a marathon mile during this eighth month of the year! Can we do it?

Day 1 – instead of driving to Hyde Park, we walked through the streets and then walked around the Serpentine lake …

Georgie wasn’t meant to walk with us but he came along and I took his lead.

We made a pact with Mum that at the end of every walk, she gets a treat of her choice. Sure enough, on our way home, we stopped for a cupcake at Hummingbird Bakery. LOL!

Day 2 – we walked Kings Road and along the quiet residential streets all the way to Sloane Square and weaved our way back.

It was a hot day – so Mum’s choice of incentive was ice cream. We stopped by Ice Cream Union on Pavilion Road.

Day 3: We walked two of London’s bridges – Chelsea Bridge and Albert Bridge

Mum had this idea that we would cross all of London’s bridges but we didn’t. That would have exceeded our marathon mile! Maybe some day.

No, Mum! That’s not what we agreed.

We had walked past Farm Fetch, heading off to Peggy Porschen when Mum turned around and we stopped at this wonderful shop of all artisan Italian foods for a cappuccino and Mum had this delicious Torta de Nocciola (hazelnut cake) – that is made only in one area in Italy.

The shop owner was telling us all about the specialty foods in his shop – all products and produce are from small independent brands in Italy.

Day 4 – we had two walks on this day. Both were with an end destination … first lunch walk to have laksa noodles …

And later in the evening, we walked back to the same courtyard and had dinner at Stanley’s

Take note: no sweets today!
We walked to the same destination twice – taking almost the same route.

And now, we have just left 4.9 mi before we reach our goal. Woohoo!!!
May’s comment: We are part of Team Cockapoo along with our friends Julie with Barnaby and Belinda with Freddie – doing this together to raise awareness and funds for St. Mungo’s.
For over 50 years, St Mungo’s has been at the forefront of efforts to tackle homelessness and rebuild lives. St Mungo’s recognise that a dog can often feel like the only companion for someone sleeping on the streets. They provide solace and comfort during what can be an extremely difficult time. St. Mungo’s recognises the powerful emotional support a dog can provide and that’s why they allow dogs in their hostels.
‘Take The Lead’ is a challenge for hoomans teaming up with their dogs in a pledge to walk the marathon distance (26.2 miles) in a month, contributing to a group target of 11,453 – one for every person St Mungo’s helped last year.
If you would like to support our Take the Lead challenge to raise money for St Mungo’s, this is our Team Cockapoo donation link https://takethelead.mungos.org/teams/team-cockapoo
