A Guest Blog by Artist Martine Davis:
Next weekend, 26, and 27th August, I will be unveiling my latest MasterPooch at The Big Woof in Kings Cross – The Dogs Dinner, inspired by the Last Supper by Leonardo DaVinci.
It’s been a labour of love and an idea I’ve had for some time. It has been no mean feat as I am sure it wasn’t for the great Leonardo either!
I have been painting dog pawtraits for a number of years now, initially inspired by my own cockerpoo Rusty. However, when I started the MasterPooch collection which featured “Mona Darcy” aka Miss Darcy –

I thought it would be rather nice to do a version of The Last Supper with all of Rusty’s pals in it. It was the perfect piece house the fluffy gang.
I loved the idea of the Last Supper as it such a recognisable and iconic painting. Most of the dogs featured are from our New Year dog holiday group which formed last December for our inaugural holiday to Scotland. In fact since then some newcomers have been added as this year’s trip will include Daisy and Lulu. All the dogs pawrents are friends of mine and if it wasn’t for the dogs, I would never have met most of them.
The exceptions are Cookee and Gordon. Cookee is a local friend I met through my ex-husband and Gordon is his son and daughter-in-law in New York who are both dog crazy.
Although the last few years have been challenging ones, filled with an epidemic, divorce and death, what has got us through is the love for our furry friends. They have been loyally there for each one of us and we are all completely appreciative.
Who would have thought 11 years ago that a little bundle of fluff that came into my life would mean so much and bring so many new friends together. The power of the pooch.

From left to right: Gordon (@gordon.thegooddood), Cookee, Missy (@missyastor), Jet, Ivy (@ivytheredcockapoo), Miss Darcy, (@missdarcys_adventures), Rusty (@fabulousand), George (@george_le_mutt), Lucca (@luccaconway), Lulu, Mr Darcy (@mrdarcy_cavapoo), Zac (@zac62021) and Daisy.
There were many other friends I would have loved to have included but alas we only had enough places for 13 pooches.
Come and see all the MasterPooches and Pawtraits at The Big Woof where the art is for sale. Commissions also taken.
May’s comment: A big applause to Martine for attempting this MasterPooch! An amazing feat and a collection of all our friends together. She has also done several other MasterPooches.

At the upcoming BIG WOOF event in King’s Cross on the 26th and 27th August, there will be an exhibition of dog artists and photographers at The Art Gallery.
