Do you guys ever stop and think how crazy dog ownership is?
Like, they’re just these creatures that live in our house … sleep in bed with us
Rely on us for everything that they do.
And we have these seemingly one-sided conversations with them. We don’t know how much of it that they truly understand
And they don’t really know the basics about us, like, how old we are. Or what our favourite colour is.
Yet they are somehow our very best friend, in the entire world that knows us better than anyone else.

HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY!
May’s comment: I choose to live my life with a domesticated animal who relies on me for protection, nourishment and well-being for as long as they are on this earth with me. Though sometimes I look at them in my bed and wonder how did this happen?
They’re four-legged furry animals who do not speak my language – and here they are sleeping next to me. I love the cuddles, I love their snoring, I love the way they looked at me. I love how much they make me their universe.
I’ve never had a dog before Darcy, and I had all the notions of a non-dog owner – no dogs on bed, no dogs on sofa, no dogs in restaurants. A lot of “no’s” … . It took all of a few months before Darcy showed me how we were going to co-exist. Today, I wouldn’t dream of not having my dogs sleep on my bed, that I am happiest and would not move unless I absolutely have to so as not to disturb them.
Dogs are believed to be the first animal to have been domesticated – some believing that it dates back over 35,000 years ago. Frustratingly there’s no certainty as to when that relationship began but it is quite clear that dogs became man’s companions even before homo sapiens settled into an agrarian lifestyle.
So today we celebrate them. For their companionship, their love and showing us how to love deeply and unconditionally.
I guess it was a relationship that was meant to be … and in recent years that relationship had developed further. But there’s still so much more to be done for their rights. And we don’t mean dining at restaurants or sleeping on our beds. While we pamper our dogs today, we also remember those who are discarded or abused for no reason. They can’t defend themselves and they cannot survive on their own. They are the most domesticated specie in the world. And they can’t fight for themselves and when they do, they are classified as dangerous dogs no matter what humans do to them.

I miss being able to take my dogs to all the pubs and restaurants. In Chicago, they are allowed in many outdoor restaurants. But never inside. I think many dogs are better behaved than a lot of the humans inside!!
