My friend, Melissa, shared this New York Times article.
A professor of neuroeconomics at Emory University used evidence collected from a series of MRIs done on a dozen of dogs or more to determine how their brains work – and more importantly what they think of humans.
The conclusion to date is that we dogs have the ability to experience positive emotions – like love and attachment! About time they figure us out! All that tail wagging, licking and nudging wasn’t enough to let humans know we delight in things?!?!?!
But what could be more meaningful for us is that this may stop them classifying us as “things” as in objects that can be disposed of. Maybe we will be granted some “personhood” status. We are in some cases already regarded as “guardian” as in care-giver to humans.
And if they start doing so, maybe it will step up the protection against exploitation. Then puppy farms, dog racing and fighting and laboratory dogs will be banned. Hooray!
Lastly, it’s so nice that friends think about us. Thank you, Melissa for sharing this really informative article.
