First Portrait

The first of many that will go on our gallery wall.

One of the first things that some had said to Mum when they heard that Lulu will be joining our family is – but there’s no more space on your gallery wall! LOL!

Don’t you worry. Mum has already started on another wall …

And now we have space for the first art piece of Lulu.

This was painted by Mum at a charity event, Paint Your Dog Fundraiser at Art Play London.

And amazingly there is one more space in the hallway – next to the ones that Sara Abbott had painted of us! LOL!

The portrait of Darcy by Sara Abbott is the first one Mum had commissioned. And from there it grew and grew. Though these are mostly just paintings, drawings, photographs but there’s also a 3-D printing of Mum and Darcy and I. And an embroidered portrait of Darcy.

They came in all sizes and some had messages in them.

And amongst them is a collage of the fridge magnets of all the places that Darcy had visited.

Mum made that after she passed to remember all the places that they’ve travelled to.

Art is a form of capturing moments. And I think we have plenty.

May’s comment: When I used to see portraits of dog art in people’s homes, I used to think – why would anyone want a portrait of their dog?!?!?

Well, let’s say I am now a convert and an avid collector of dog art – maybe just of my dogs. LOL!

The art collection for Lulu has begun. It appropriately started with a Paint Your Dog Fundraiser at Art Play London. It was coincidentally the day when she was flying from Beijing to Paris, to her new life in London.

All proceeds from that day were donated to Harbin Slaughterhouse Survivors – where Lulu was from.

It was a really fun thing to do on a Saturday morning and there will be another Paint Your Dog on the 8th October at Art Play London in Old Spitalfields Market. You don’t have to be good at art to do this. They teach you step by step on tackling the subject.
