Do more of what makes you sparkle!
That is our new year’s resolution.
May’s comment: Way back when as a teenager, I loved reading the Reader’s Digest short stories. There was one in particular that had stuck with me all these years. A story about a man, who after his wife had passed from cancer, he found in the bottom drawer of her dresser, beautiful lingerie still with tags on, wrapped in tissue. She had been saving them for that special day.
We keep things for that special occasion all too often.
We had been hopeful that we would see the end of the pandemic after the summer, and that plans to celebrate the new year in the Lake District would go ahead as planned. I had bought a new dress for New Year’s Eve dinner, but of course as we know now, the situation had worsened. And as for that dress, well, I remembered the message from that Reader’s Digest short story and decided to wear it on New Year’s Eve even though it was just me and my dogs. Regardless of where we were, it was still a special night and we celebrated together.
And just as I was again clearing out yet another drawer (as I have been doing all of last year), I found an unopened box of face cream that a friend had generously given me earlier last year. I was saving it. Well, not any more. I ripped it open. Probably should have started using it sooner! Might have helped! LOL!
Things are just things – and if they are special, we should enjoy them NOW.
Since turning sixty, I decided to celebrate every birthday with planned trips to special places I wanted to share with Darcy and George. I’ve never had a problem with get-up-n-go but the pandemic brought an abrupt end to all travel plans. Instead we celebrated every occasion not with grand gestures, but with moments of gratitude, with a single cupcake, or a zoom calls with friends.
I have given up on new year resolutions many moons ago, so this really should be a daily mantra – to remind myself that every day is special. And on extra special days, they need not be grand gestures but a reminder to be grateful for another anniversary of whatever the occasion.
May you leave a trail of sparkle wherever you go!

Wise words. A very Happy New Year to you and the woolies May. I enjoy reading about you all so very much. I have a black miniature poodle boy and I can relate to George’s mischievous ways!
