This is Elsa. Mummy met him when she was sitting at Eli Zabar’s cafe. Her owner was sitting at the next table. He told Mummy that Elsa was left behind, unwanted because one of her ears do not stay up. The gentleman always had German Shepherds – and he took Elsa home when she was 10 months old.
It was a beautiful day and Pete, a rescue bullmastiff sat outside of Yura while his owner went in to buy them a treat – so they can share while sitting in the sunshine.
Lola and Rocky are two “mismatched” Jack Russells – as described by their owners, 🙂
This is Cupid – Mummy met him in a doggy shop in downtown New York. He’s a very old rescue. He doesn’t like anyone touching his face or head because his teeth are all rotten and they hurt him. His back legs are weak and doesn’t hold his weight well, so his fosterer went to buy him a proper carrier bag so he can take Cupid out with him. Mummy thinks this is a failed fosterer in the making. 🙂 Hooray!
14 year old Baby doesn’t do much walking any more, so she gets around in a push chair.
In the midst of a very big and very busy city there are many lovely stories of human kindness.
May’s comment: These are just a handful of the many, many dogs that makes up the cityscape of Manhattan.
They are so varied – big and small, bought for their breed or given a second chance at living. There are many such stories of generous humans giving unwanted dogs a chance at life – even when there isn’t a lot of space to share.
Now that I am a dog owner myself, I see dogs everywhere. I also see the people they are with. And amazingly, I even speak to some of them.
This is an aspect of the city I’ve never really considered before. 🙂 But so happy to have discovered it.
