Mum and I went to the preview of The Art of Racing in the Rain on Saturday – and believe me, it guarantees a few tears.
In the case of Mum, it was like a waterfall!
Mum read “The Art of Racing in the Rain” (https://missdarcy.org/?s=Art+of+Racing+in+the+Rain) years ago – it was her first doggy book after she got me. And she loved it.
It made her shed a tear from the beginning and by the end of the book, tears were streaming down her face. She loves a good cry – a good release, she said.
When she saw the advertising for the movie of the book – she was so excited. She was going to see it on the day it opens but then it wouldn’t be quite the same watching it without me. So when the opportunity came for a dog-friendly preview, she jumped at it – to see the movie with me.
Mum more excited about this than anyone else.
And I was really excited about the treats on offer!
And got caught in the act!
And the photo op.
But it was time for the movie to begin and we were ready.
At the end of the movie, I got one massive hug. As we were leaving, we were interviewed and Mum was one emotional mess.
She blubbered her way through the interview. Rather embarrassing to say the least, but that’s only because Mum loved the movie that much. It was a guaranteed tear-jerker and the acting by puppy “Enzo” and grown-up “Enzo” was superb. Mum said she saw a lot of me in Enzo.
We got a pressie – a “zebra” – when you watch the movie you will know the significance of this. We gave it to George when we got home and he duly attacked that villain.
Movie opens in cinemas this Friday, 9th August.

May’s comment: Loved the book, loved the movie.
It captured all the moments that a dog owner is familiar with – and the looks that the dogs give you. Enzo’s expressions were priceless – and I see them in Darcy, her “doggy eyes” and the eyebrow movements … everything I wish I could understand what she’s thinking, if I could hear her thoughts like we could hear Enzo’s. OK, it was just a movie but it brought to life how we feel about our dogs.
I wondered why I blubbered through an interview. It was a reminder of all the little things that are important to us. Yes, of course it made me think about the years flying past so quickly.
And the many times I have looked into Darcy’s eyes and wondered what she’s thinking. I feel she is my furry soul-mate. And I so wish I can communicate better with her but sometimes words are unnecessary – just knowing she’s there and I want to be there for her as much as I can.
So I love a good cry at movies – but this one was almost from the start. And that Kevin Costner voiceover as Enzo, well, that surely helped. 🙂

If you are a dog owner – you will enjoy the movie. I don’t presume anyone who reads our blog is not a dog lover, but if you know someone who isn’t a dog-lover, take them to see it. They might begin to understand that special unspoken connection that we have and we know of between owner and dog.
Enzo believed in the Mongolian legend that a dog “who is prepared” will be reincarnated in his next life as a human. I wonder what Darcy or George will be in their reincarnation. What do you think?

Oh my, May just watching that trailer made me choke up. That looks like a summer must see. Thank you for sharing. Unfortunately Folkestone doesn’t have dog friendly cinema but I will tell Gracie all about it.
