Friendship is the Sweetest Flower

IMG_0232

Today is Friendship Day – celebrated internationally. And sending you some flower power from two of our favourites to wish you a Happy Friendship Day and wishing you many lovely moments with those who never get tired of your drama, don’t judge and somehow make everything okay.

The yellow rose is the bearer of friendship and joy.

Sunflowers traditionally symbolise loyalty and pure thoughts.

To old friends,

New friends …

And friends we have said goodbye to over the last few years …

Thank you for the memories and for being there when we needed you.

May’s comment: A few thoughts on friendship and flowers by Ashley Brown

Every friendship is unique. Some stay in bloom with an occasional message, while others need watering every day. We wander in and out of our garden intuitively, and that is the joy of friends. The relationship feels easy, a happy place that makes life sweeter. We find our own ways of showing we care. When it comes to the crunch, all that matters is we do our best to be there for them when they need us. For the tough conversations as well as the celebrations. Showing gratitude for the joy they bring is something we are all guilty of forgetting from time to time. If you have a friend who could do with some love right now, there is one worldwide tried and tested way to light up their heart. Send flowers of course. As if there is one thing to be sure of; friendship is the sweetest flower.

It’s best to pick friends like we do our flowers, remembering variety is the spice of life. Each season brings different blooms, some last forever and some fade away. Friendship is an experience, one way or another it always leaves us with something. Much like there is a flower for every occasion, every friend plays a different role in our lives. Each a catalyst for our becoming in their own sweet way. Though there are always a few classics in every collection.

The idea of a World Friendship Day was first proposed on 20 July 1958 by Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho during a dinner with friends in Puerto Pinasco, a town on the River Paraguay about 200 miles north of Asuncion.

Out of this humble meeting of friends, the World Friendship Crusade was born. The World Friendship Crusade is a foundation that promotes friendship and fellowship among all human beings, regardless of race, color or religion. Since then, 30 July has been faithfully celebrated as Friendship Day in Paraguay every year and has also been adopted by several other countries.

Friends are people that you have happy memories with and who stick by you no matter what. Stick with the people that pull the magic out of you and not the madness.
