A Dartmoor Dream: Moss, Moors & Michelin Stars
Gidleigh Park is a luxurious Tudor-style country house hotel set majestically on the bubbling upper reaches of the River Teign. Sitting on 107 acres of mature grounds, it enjoys an exquisite location on the very edge of Dartmoor National Park.

The atmosphere combines traditional country house comfort with attentive, personal hospitality, making it ideal for relaxing stays and special celebrations.

Gidleigh Park boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant, renowned for exceptional culinary artistry under Executive Head Chef Ian Webber, making it a top gastronomic destination in Devon.

My friend Margaret is back in the UK, and we are embarking on another Luxury, History, and Hospitality Tour of some of England’s best venues. This is Day 1 of 16!

And of course, we had Afternoon Tea sitting on their terrace overlooking the grounds—after all, this is Margaret’s 16 Afternoon Teas in 16 Days! Follow Margaret on her Instagram @KitchenChat to see what she got up to.

Guests enjoy a wide range of activities on the extensive grounds, including an 18-hole putting course, tennis courts, croquet, yoga, nature walks, and even supercar experiences.

Gidleigh Park has been awarded the prestigious Two Key distinction by The MICHELIN Guide, recognising us as one of the UK’s most exceptional hotels. It is distinguished by its award-winning fine dining, beautiful setting on Dartmoor’s edge, extensive grounds with diverse activities, and elegant yet welcoming country house ambience.
It’s an absolute joy to wander Gidleigh Park’s beautiful grounds with the dogs. They were thoroughly spoiled with their own Gidleigh Park biscuits, while we were handed a charming walking map to help us explore the woodland paths, streams, and gardens at our own pace. The estate is wonderfully dog-friendly — the only place off-limits is the restaurant, but with so many places to roam, firesides to snooze by, and friendly faces along the way, no one seemed to mind.
